A weekend competition turns deadly in this seventh Raine Stockton Dog Mystery.

Dog trainer Raine Stockton and her happy-go-lucky golden retriever Cisco have been looking forward the opening weekend of AKC competitive agility all winter. They travel to the low country of South Carolina to compete against some of the top dogs in the southeast for blue ribbons, squeaky toys, and perhaps even that elusive title of High in Trial. But even in this carefree atmosphere of high-spirited dogs and dedicated owners ambition runs high, and when one of the competitors is found brutally murdered it begins to look as though corruption might have penetrated even this last bastion of decency and sportsmanship, the AKC.

While Raine and Cisco stalk a killer, a twenty-year old mystery is unfolding back home that will have devastating consequences for Raine and those she loves, and every hour that passes brings a deadly threat closer.

High In Trial Raine Stockton Dog Mysteries Book 7 edition by Donna Ball Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

What do I say without giving too much away.... Thank you Donna Ball for another great read and for a great series. Thankfully I'm reading this series after almost all the books have been released, because this one ended with a huge cliffhanger and I immediately purchased the next installment. This book is multi layered as it's centered around a Trail Show (don't call it a dog show) where a murder occurs, plus there are things going on with Raine and Miles (she has issues to overcome), Buck makes some important decisions and Maude drops a bombshell that will turn Raine's world upside down (next book). This book does not disappoint, Donna hits a home run!
This is the second of the Raine Stockton Books I have read. It did not disappoint. This story is again told in first person by the main character Raine. She lives in a small community in the Smokey Mountains. This story is based around an agility trial where Raine is competing with her Golden Retriever, Cisco. Cisco is also a search and rescue dog. There is a murder at the trial -- another dog owner, Marcie whom the murderer mistakenly thinks is Raine. There are several surprises in the story which keep you reading. Also, there are some good dog training tips thrown in the plot which I enjoyed.
I’ve been a big fan of the Raine Stockton books since I discovered them a couple of years ago. But I have to say that this one really let me down. Oh, the plot was OK and the characters are still solid. But without giving away any plot spoilers, the way that the author handled the apparent end of one of the core personal relationships of the series was, in my opinion, clipped and unsatisfying. I hope that this gets addressed and rectified in the next book in the series, but because of this development, High in Trial was very disappointing for me.
I actually enjoyed this. Maybe because I am an dog lover and owned a Border Collie in the past. I thought the descriptions of the dog's characteristics and traits were very accurate. I now own a Goldendoode and found the poodle and golden retriever were also well represented. I participated in dog shows in the past and know that it is very competitive and cut throat. the only thing I didn't care fior was the main character's immaturity and ambivelance when it came to her boyfriend, Miles. He seems to do Sll the right things and she still gets angry over stupid little details. The guy is nice, good looking, rich, and treats her like a queen so what's the problem?
If you like mysteries and love dogs, this is for you. The primary characters are likable, good people but also have their flaws, making them seem real--human. The dog trials depiction is really interesting, and so well written, most of the story was as though I was actually there observing events unfold. There is some unresolved tragedy and innocents suffered but one must keep in mind this is fiction, but good fiction.
i normally love these books. they always brighten my day reading them. this one not so much. had it been the first of the series i had read it would have been the last. it's time for raine to GROW UP and get over herself. missed the usual characters and the affair her father had etc PLEASE. there was NO need for this in any way shape of form. if miss bell was attempting to put some smut in her cozy mystery series she failed. there are honestly some good kind people in the world which was how she previously presented these two so what good comes of using a chapter to make them less. thumbs down and shame be on donna bell for this one. i recommend you skip this one, i wish i had. i will try one more in this series if it continues in this vein my time will not be wasted again on this seriesl
Obviously I have read one through seven of the Raines Stockton Dog Mysteries books. I'm not a fast reader, but I seem to finish each book in two days. I have thoroughly enjoyed each one and can't wait to start The next one.
The characters continue to be developed in each book. I really like that.
I've learned a lot about dog training.
I am also seeing characteristics of my four g
Goldens Meghan, Royce, Cody and Zack, in Cisco!
Thank you for these great reads
